During the campaign trails before election, she came across as simple and your girl next door. It was still a pipe dream that we could actually have a black American president; we would wonder how they would handle the platform with darkie tendencies. So much was said about how the change would come and when it finally happened we celebrated, we even wanted to paint the white house black. The change did come in so many ways…
Fast forward to now, the Obamas have become a major media focus and Michelle Obama has gone against the odds -its no wonder why she has been called the first lady of style. Normally the wives to state heads are very conservative and predictable when it comes to their dress sense. Michelle embodies class and elegance. Never underdressed but not OTT- she effortlessly looks appropriate for whatever the occasion. Her taste relates to most women today- regardless of age and we can learn a thing or two.

She is daring in her choices, giving the media something to fuss about and even those who were not so much in politics have a little something to lure them. I honour her for maintaining her gal next door look, making cardis and flatties normal -a must have and showing us truly that simplicity is the keynote of all elegance.
