In other unrelated news Chris Brown has persevered through the negative surrounding him lately and has fought his way back to the top by scoring a number one debut with his new album, “F.A.M.E.”. First-week sales of the album netted 270,000 copies, the second highest total of the year(so_far). It also is his first No. 1 on the national album chart. This is what he had to say

EARTH HOUR - JUST 60 MINUTES

This is a quick reminder about earth hour tomorrow, Saturday the 26th March 2011 @ 8.30PM - 9.30PM. And seeing that Bafana Bafana is playing kinda at the same time- can we just switch off the lights and watch the soccer. Im show that will count. Just saying and just in case you don’t know, Earth hour is a commitment to combating climate change. Be counted.

THE FIRST LADY OF STYLE

During the campaign trails before election, she came across as simple and your girl next door. It was still a pipe dream that we could actually have a black American president; we would wonder how they would handle the platform with darkie tendencies. So much was said about how the change would come and when it finally happened we celebrated, we even wanted to paint the white house black. The change did come in so many ways… 

Fast forward to now, the Obamas have become a major media focus and Michelle Obama has gone against the odds -its no wonder why she has been called the first lady of style. Normally the wives to state heads are very conservative and predictable when it comes to their dress sense. Michelle embodies class and elegance. Never underdressed but not OTT- she effortlessly looks appropriate for whatever the occasion. Her taste relates to most women today- regardless of age and we can learn a thing or two.

SUMMING UP THE WEEK

Firstly, im no die hard sports fanatic, i just appreciate a good game on a regular, be it soccer, tennis, cricket or whatever really. I will not however lose my sleep or be in a dreary mood for days when the odds go against my team – that’s the game of life: you lose some, you win some. Growing up surrounded by uncles (read - too many males), I was exposed to sport almost everyday in my life. Its needless to say, the world’s most beautiful game featured a lot in my high school nights. Then I would be so frustrated because it did cost me my favourite tv-shows. To this day I loathe any programme in the same taste like Monday night football- talk of men hogging the remote control.  In this day and age, its important to be up to date with current happenings and though soccer  is the most popular sport , lets be relevant. Its sad to see a lot of young pple totally clueless and ignorant, about the world in general. Expand your knowledge on other sports –as well. And today as the Proteas take on New Zealand lets support the boys. Its time for Africa.

Still on sport- im not happy with the the champions league draw. Piting  us again the blues isn’t exactly a walk in the park- so I’ll hold my breath to the 6^th of April.  I cant forget that final a few years back that ended in penalties. It was the first all English clash and that game took the cup in explaining what it means to be on the egde of the seat. I recall how I felt after the win-: ever felt too happy that you don’t even know what to say and what to do. Think a smiley heart.

Changing gears, im so not impressed with people poking Chris Brown. That Riri fallout is stale news, can we for once stop asking him about that P-U-U-U LEASEEEE.  Yes he has apologized for his ranting, can we move on and appreciate FAME.  THANK YOU.  Word has it that the album has/will debut at no.1 in the american billboard charts, I personally now believe that someone is on a payroll to puke on his image.  So whoever you are get off your high horse, Chris Brown is here to stay.  I will no longer apologize for any future misdemeanours he gets up to.   

If you ask for it, you will get it.

AND Hell NO- O.  I will not have any of this anymore.  USHER RAYMOND IS NOT GAY. Again  this is a case of haters striking when the iron is hot.  There is too much manga manga journalism out there.  Lets learn to  differentiate between tabloid news and facts.

And lastly, lets be honest with ourselves  - why is America , Britain and France in Libya. We living in a time when its just about greed, wars, poverty, floods, quakes and all other sad realities. Clearly this world is not my home. We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

While we still here we might as well live and let live.

A picture is worth more than a thousand words. One of my many passion which im yet to explore is the art of/in photography. I have a taste for all the fine things in life and if that old adage holds true, my life is bound to move more powerfully towards the finer things of life.

One day I will have my wall of ‘fame’ –at an appointed time. ‘What I visualize will materialize’. One day is one day.

In my field of work, there are business analysts and (pause) “business analysts”. What I want to drive home is that in anything and everything, the difference between ordinary and extra ordinary is an extra mile.  It not only takes skill, passion and immense talent for an artist to fabricate striking images but an extra touch to breathe life into an image that would otherwise seem lifeless.

Being Usher's no 1. fan, I don’t know if I should get excited over an alleged sex tape starring the superstar and his ex –wife Tameka Foster. The two who were married and remain good friends (after a much publicized divorce ) for their sons sake - have this far remained silent but knowing o darkie - I bet Tameka would be the first to comment – talk of free publicity. Back to the tape, I would like to think there is little fuss over the actual sex but much of the hype is due to the fact that this is USHER we talking about. It can’t be news that a once married couple had sex. DUH. Forgive me Lord, i keep licking my lips over this pic to my right.

 I admit Usher is HOT and a prospect of seeing him ‘more’ does tickle my fancy.  Many ladies would testify that they would want to trade places with the girl featured in the video of the song. And yeses  Usher gives it his all, its so believable. I can’t recall the no. of times I have watched his 8701 Evolution Tour where he gets the ladies going berserk as he takes off his tee and doing those dance moves.  If what they say about a black man’s dance moves is anything to go by, this tape is going to sell big.

I remember back @ coly , there was some joke that the lady picked from the crowd for the track bedtime in the tour didn’t bath for days so not to wash off Usher off her.

While I cant stand his attraction to cougars, he is a great artist who has contributed so much to the industry and if this turns out to be really him and Tameka, its surely going to dent his image and what a crazy time for this to come out when he was embracing prospects of performing at the royal wedding of Prince William and Miss Katy. It will be sad for him to loose endorsements and be drawn in the mud as was the case with Chris Brown.

In the meanwhile, he is my super star. Im still celebrating his Grammy win and Sex tape or not USHER is still king.

LACE AND SHEER

 

I know already, this entry should have come a bit earlier for all you fashionistas. If you aint wearing lace this season, I don’t know under which rock have you been hiding

As a little girl I adored all things lacy and feminine but growing up I lost myself in the tom girl era and well im still coming out of it. Those in the know have babbled out that lace is taken over for some while. Although this look has been already been abused  locally, it still screams elegance.

‘The ultimate balance of lace and sheer fabrics is to be romantic but not over-girly; sensual but not over-suggestive’ (in the words of one true style blogger).  The idea is to maintain a clean feminine look and raising eyebrows but not in a trashy way.

There are so many ways to rock lace and still remain chic. Combine it with sheer fabric to take it to another level. I love stretch lace, the way it is body hugging and very feminine, totally chic. One can also try the two color shading which we have seen enough off already.

Unless you operate from Oxford street, the nude way that bears one’s underwear is a big no no for me. If you want to stand out go for white on black skin  - like I always say this is a beautiful contrast of colour. While Riri looks good in the April cover of Vogue, not everyone can get away with this look. I like how the whole dress cleverly covered her intimate bits by using a color that’s closest to her skin tone. Can you imagine my disgust at the dress she wore to the grammy’s carpet. This in comparison is likable to the eye, it doesn’t leave too much for the imagination.

Limit not the lace to the dresses. Im still yet to find a shoemaker who can do these for me. Lace covered things are also big in this season to be a fairy.

So go out and be inspired.

AN OUTBURST OF MY SOUL

Those who know me , know i cannot live without music. i have always been an rnb gal and even now im still true to the game.  If music be the food of love- play on.

The titles above are a collector's must have. Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. 

All my life i have never been a fan of british music, but Adele's style of music is trully classic.  She is a great artist and at such a tender age, i foresee a legend in the making.  she reminds me of john legend's get lifted. im so gaga over that raw voice of hers and her music speaks to the heart.  Watch out for this young thing. She will ride on serious waves.

Jennifer Hudson is no doubt a phenomenal artist. While im not so sure on her new skinny look , she has  great voice control  and i expect to be wowed on this full album. For a woman who has gone through so much pain and still rise and shine, i can only say there is no limit to her wave. Avant- fell in love with him back in high school with those ballad tracks like OOh AAh, separated and for me he is understated.  I pit him against the likes of joe thomas, tyrese , donell. jaheim, but alas he deserves better publicity.

I ll be the first (i think)to proudly say i dont buy the Rihanna and Chris Brown fall out. I dont biliv he did the things they say he did against Riri but i honour him for humbling himself iro the whole issue. This dude swept me off with my all time favourite "Say goodbye" and till now im eternally hooked. I seriously loooove his work and this album is no exception. From what i have heard so far- im impressed. Cant wait.

The pied piper- i can not even begin. All i can say he is 'r' in RNB .  Life is one grand, sweet song, so start the music. 

ITS A GIRL

Its confirmed, Victoria and David Beckham has a little princess on the way. The two have proudly announced that a little girl is on the way. Currently a mother to 3 sons, Romeo, Cruz and Brooklyn ,im wholly excited for her.

She may have not have made it with her voice but FACT IS she makes motherhood look glamourous. And even after 3 rascals so far she rocking that body right . She is one yummy celeb mummy with a great sense of style. I trust that a little fashionista wd be born. the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

So what will the pum- pum look like?  Im thinking of a stunner, think a little spice girl. And Victoria has never made it a secret that she hopes for a girl so finally her wishes have been granted. And as we wait for the British summer for baby posh, i can only muse on what Mrs Becks will wear to the British royal wedding come April with a baby bump to show off.

I hope she has David’s eyes and SMILE, Posh’s body and style and above all – be MANCHESTER UNITED devotee. We all know becks still has ‘man u’ blood in him.

As I contemplate on what to do next with my hair, im torn between one too many options.  Talk about a gal with a hair crisis that’s me – im currently the picture of hair gone bad. It doesn’t help that my scalp itches so bad, I swear an army of something is having one hell of a party.  Its midweek and im just not goin’ to take a chance and remove this weave I have heard since … can’t remember.

A typical day for me is at least 8 hours of work and coming home, I just kick off those inches and literally dive onto the bed and take a good nap for an hour or so.My work consumes me in a good way though, however not even at odds would I have the energy to undo this once upon a time great thing. I need a quick solution seeing that the weekend is far-off I will share with you how I intend to survive these coming few days.

Never in my mind have I embraced the thought of a wig, I have always associated them with being so old skool.  My vivid memories of these handy things r all associated with people who are naturally bold and in this heat I wonder really what goes on underneath there. I remember one aunt of mine who was fond of these things due to what in those days we used to call permanent hair deficiency (PHD) used to sweat like a pig but as the saying goes beauty is pain, pan is gain.

But being in the predicament im in, I might just opt for one since there are so convenient until a time I decide what to do with the hair.  A weave, braids or simply go natural, what’s it going to be.

For the greater part of the year I always wear a weave , its not that im so obsessed, its just that its so manageable for someone who hardly has a 8 hour sleep and prone to the weekday morning rush. I give big kudos to whoever thought of that. Love or hate it- weaves are very convenient – its so easy to change your look without too much hustle.

Not everyone (myself included) is a looker where the natural is concerned so viva and long life to your choice To the sisters who can rock a natural hair-do. I salute you.

At the end of it all , I am not my hair, I ma not this skin , I am a soul that lives within.
